The new guest house provides a home for 83 international students in the immediate vicinity of Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences and is already fully occupied. The project, realised in collaboration with the Ölz family, combines a revitalised, listed historic building with a new structure built using modular timber construction. Photovoltaic panels, local heating and a green roof contribute to sustainable energy supply and use. The result is modern living, study and communal spaces for international students.
OeAD authorised signatory Ulrich Hörmann: “Ever since the OeAD was founded 65 years ago, one of our core tasks has been to provide accommodation for students and researchers coming to Austria during their stay.
This provides a service that is essential for international mobility, one that is often lacking in other countries and thus leads to barriers to mobility. The fact that this service can now be offered for the first time in our westernmost federal province, for the first time in collaboration with a university of applied sciences, the FHV, and in the high-quality, sustainable and resource-efficient construction style that has long been our standard, fills us with pride and great joy.”
For OeAD student housing, the project represents an important milestone: “The monu is our 15th OeAD guest house in Austria and combines the old and the new in a special way. The fact that it was fully booked right from the opening confirms the high demand for sustainable, high-quality student accommodation,” emphasises managing director Günther Jedliczka.
With this new guest house, OeAD student housing is supporting the internationalisation of Vorarlberg as a centre of higher education. Good accommodation options make it easier for international students in particular to settle into their new place of study and create opportunities for socialising and exchange. The proximity to Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences provides excellent conditions for this.
