The quality review of learning apps is carried out as part of the initiative for digital teaching and learning materials. It is based on the certification procedure for the Learning Apps Quality Seal (“Gütesiegel Lern-Apps”). Successfully passing the quality review is a prerequisite for a learning app to be listed in the Learning Apps Marketplace. 

Until further notice, the Quality Seal remains valid for the 138 learning apps that currently hold it (www.guetesiegel-lernapps.at). When the Quality Seal was introduced in 2021, its purpose was to provide teachers, students, parents and guardians, as well as other interested parties, with guidance when selecting apps for learning. 

The quality review procedure follows a standardised two-stage process based on the criteria of the Learning Apps Quality Seal: 

1. Submission of a learning app for the quality review procedure  
2. Evaluation of the learning app by evaluators  

Learning apps admitted to the procedure are assigned to evaluators (teachers). They test and assess the app using a defined set of criteria. In the case of paid learning apps, access to the app is provided free of charge for the evaluation period. 

Learning app providers can actively submit their apps for quality review by checking the eligibility criteria (knockout criteria) and confirming upon submission that their app meets these requirements. 

Successfully passing the quality review is a prerequisite for a learning app to be listed in the Learning Apps Marketplace. Learning app providers may participate in the Learning Apps Marketplace only if their learning app has been submitted for quality review by the relevant deadline and successfully completes or has already successfully completed the quality review procedure. Further deadlines and requirements must be met as part of the open-house procedure for admission to the Learning Apps Marketplace provider pool.
