Learn Apps
Quality label Learn Apps is a quality certificate awarded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) since the school year 2021/22 for digital mobile learning applications that have undergone a standardised evaluation and certification process. The team Certification of Learn Apps, part of the Reference Point for Quality Assurance in General and Vocational Education and Training (RQB) at the OeAD, carries out the certification process on behalf of and together with the BMBWF.
The evaluation and certification process implements quality assurance, which requires the fulfilment of defined quality criteria and positive evaluation by teachers according to pedagogical, functional and student-oriented aspects. The associated quality label is intended to provide guidance for pupils, teachers, guardians and other interested parties when selecting apps for learning.
In the context of the certification process, learn apps are defined as digital tools which support independent and interest-led learning activities as well as learning in the context of school lessons. In addition, the apps are available for both iOS and Android systems in the respective store and/or as platform-independent, web-based apps, are GDPR-compliant, ad-free and can be used without an accompanying textbook.
The background and starting point for the quality label Learn Apps is the BMBWF's 8-point plan and the Foundation for Innovation in Education's (ISB) focus on school learning: school as a learning organisation.
