Retno Ardhani is an Associate Professor in Dental Biomedical Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and a practicing dentist at Prof. Soedomo UGM Dental Hospital. Her global collaborations span Japan, Germany, Austria, Australia, and the United States, working with researchers, clinicians, government bodies, and industry professionals. Drawing from her experiences, she will discuss how cultural backgrounds shape professional interactions in scientific collaboration. The talk will also highlight women in science, reflecting on challenges and opportunities in diverse academic environments.
Retno Ardhani works with Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry, the National Research and Innovation Agency, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, fostering international research initiatives. In 2023, she received the Ernst Mach Grant postdoctoral scholarship within the European Academic University Network (ASEA-UNINET), collaborating with Prof. Erik Reimhult at the BOKU University on antimicrobial regenerative membranes, with ongoing research. The ASEAN is a network of European and South-East Asian universities with the goal of promoting the continuous internationalisation of education and research. Every year more than 80 bilateral and multilateral research projects are conducted. These include PhD and Postdoc scholarships that are granted to students and researchers

Detailed biography
Retno Ardhani is an Associate Professor in Dental Biomedical Sciences at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and a practicing dentist at Prof. Soedomo UGM Dental Hospital. She previously served as Head of the Magister Study Program in Clinical Dentistry Sciences and has over 6 years of experience in academic innovation and international procurement projects in developing the Dental Learning Centre.
Retno holds Master’s and PhD degrees with research focused on peripheral nerve regeneration and has extensive experience in material characterization, bacterial and cell culture, and animal models. Her research spans bone and periodontal tissue regeneration, dental implants, and nerve tissue engineering.
In 2023, Retno was awarded the Ernst Mach Grant – ASEA-UNINET postdoctoral scholarship. She developed antimicrobial regenerative membranes with Univ. Prof. Dr. Erik Reimhult and his team at the Department of Bionanoscience (now the Department of Natural Sciences and Sustainable Resources), University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), with ongoing collaborative research. Since 2014, Retno has been committed to adapting global technologies to local needs, aiming to develop affordable therapy tailored to Indonesia’s oral health challenges.
