Social work is of fundamental importance because it addresses issues of social justice. These include the fair distribution of essential goods, peace-building and resilience-building measures in vulnerable groups, e.g. in migration societies, and the strengthening of children's, girls' and women's rights.
In this context interdisciplinary cooperation between academic disciplines is considered an essential characteristic of the strength of social work and development research.
Social justice is a central issue that must be anchored in science, politics and practice. In this ‘Welt im Ohr’ programme we will discuss with Charles Rutikanga, a scientist, APPEAR project partner and social worker from Uganda, who currently works and lives in Vienna.
As part of APPEAR, the Austrian Partnership Programme in Higher Education and Research for Development, which is funded by the Austrian Development Cooperation and implemented by the OeAD, Charles Rutikanga contributed to the PROSOWO ‘Professional Social Work in East Africa’ project to research, strengthen and professionalise social work.
